Setting up San’s IL-2 FOV changer

Someone asked me to put together a how to for San’s IL-2 FOV changer so here it is.

The first thing you have to do is open up your IL-2 conf.inifile located in your main IL-2 directory.

Under the section [window] change SaveAspect=1 to 0.

Now look for a section named [DeviceLink] if it’s not there that is ok you just need to add it.

This is what needs to be in your conf.ini file for the FOV changer to function properly.

[DeviceLink]

Port=1711

IPS=

The last line IPS= you need to enter the local IP address of the machine you are on. If you are not sure you can either go Start\Run and type cmd. Then type ipconfig at the command prompt and hit enter:

Now download the latest version of the San’s IL-2 FOV changer.

http://il2fovchanger...vChanger_RC.zip

After installing the program go ahead and open it up.

You should see this.

Enable the Auto activate box. This will automatically start the FOV changer when you start a new flight in IL-2. Auto reactive automatically reactivates the FOV changer if communication is lost and should be enabled. Quick search accelerates the startup time but can cause graphics anomalies so if you have any problems disable this option. You can disable the Debug Tab if you’d like.

Now click on the settings tab.

Now this may or may not work for you. I believe if you have a CH joystick or Cougar joystick you may not have a problem however the program did not recognize my Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X hatswitch so I had to do a couple of extra steps to get it working . And here is what I had to do. I first started up IL-2 and made sure that nothing was assigned to the arrow key cluster. Then I downloaded a nice little program called AutoHotKey which you can get here.

http://www.autohotke...tkeyInstall.exe

Install AutoHotKey.

During the install AutoHotKey is going to ask you which components you would like to install. Make sure everything isenabled including Drag and drop into scripts. Then click next and continue the install process.

Once the install finishes go toPrograms\AutoHotKey and click the AutoHotKey icon. You can right click on this icon and send a shortcut to the desktop which is what I like to do so I can easily fire up the program before starting IL-2. You can have the program auto start with Windows by making a shortcut in the Programs\Startup folder. The first time you start the program it is going to ask you if you would like it to create a sample script called AutoHotKey.ahk in the My Documents folder. Click yes.

This new script that was created in your My Documents folder will run every time you start AutoHotKey. The first time you run AutoHotKey you will be presented with the contents of the AutoHotKey.ahk script.

Now you want to delete everything from“#z::Run www.autohotkey.com” to “return”

Now copy the following text into the script,don’t copy the horizontal lines at the top and bottom. Now save the script.

#Persistent ; Keep this script running until the user explicitly exits it.
SetTimer, WatchAxis, 5
return

WatchAxis:
GetKeyState, JoyX, JoyX ; Get position of X axis.
GetKeyState, JoyY, JoyY ; Get position of Y axis.
KeyToHoldDownPrev = %KeyToHoldDown% ; Prev now holds the key that was down before (if any).

if JoyX > 70
    KeyToHoldDown = Right
else if JoyX < 30
    KeyToHoldDown = Left
else if JoyY > 70
    KeyToHoldDown = Down
else if JoyY < 30
    KeyToHoldDown = Up
else
    KeyToHoldDown =

if KeyToHoldDown = %KeyToHoldDownPrev% ; The correct key is already down (or no key is needed).
    return  ; Do nothing.

; Otherwise, release the previous key and press down the new key:
SetKeyDelay -1 ; Avoid delays between keystrokes.
if KeyToHoldDownPrev ; There is a previous key to release.
    Send, {%KeyToHoldDownPrev% up}  ; Release it.
if KeyToHoldDown ; There is a key to press down.
    Send, {%KeyToHoldDown% down}  ; Press it down.
Return

Now go back to San’s IL-2 FOV Changer and go to the settings tab.

Now under Keys: Global select None for no modifier. Now the way I set mine up is as such.

Under General Settings FOV Default I set it for 120

Under Basic

Start: = left

Default Fov: = down

Under Advanced under key select Up and Right from the drop down menus to make entries. Then for the Up key FOV if I remember correctly (cause I am not on work computer right now) I set if for 65 deg FOV and for the right key I set the FOV for 135 deg FOV but you can of cause play around with these values until you find what you like. Don’t forget to hit apply. Now you have to have San’s IL-2 FOV changer running as well as the AutoHotKey program if you needed it.

I sure hope this helps clear things up and look forward to more great nights of flying with all of you.

Rob Casey (DD_Mayhem)

P.S. if I screwed anything up or left something out just post in the support topic for this tutorial and shoot me a PM on the DangerDogz forum.
