Thanks, Kimo pretty much as I figured.

No adjustment, since it's spring loaded at a certain pressure. The only thing you need to check for is if it leaks through that little hole there. That's when you need to check the diaphragm, gasket, spring etc. I've seen a few failed(stuck) and leaking but it's not that common. Just make sure that you have movement and that it's not too tight in that guide hole there.

usually arranged so that when the pressure rises the valve opens and permits greater flow of cooling water. If this device is stuck in the "low" pressure mode, it can cause overheating in the outboard motor.

The POPPET VALVE is a device in the cooling system which opens or closes in response to the pressure in the water cooling system. Generally the pressure in the cooling system increases with increasing engine speed. The poppet valve--a name which really just describes the shape of the valve and not the fact that it is associated with a pressure controlled response in the cooling system--is usual...

spring and cool the exhaust. Is there any adjustment, have you seen any of them fail, and cause lower water flow through the upper section of the block and heads?
    Thanks Todd

plunger thing on the right side lower block under the ignition pacs.
My best guess is it controls the water flow into the exhaust ports to keep them cool. I have no information on it in my aftermarket manual.
Can you confirm this, and let me know ust what and how it works.
I assume the spring rleases plunger once the water pump reaces a certain pressuer to overcome the s...

hey Kimo I helped a friend yesterday and instructed him on changing his water pump on an old XR2 150 its slightly older version of my XR4
All that went well, and it works just fine now. We had to replace the upper and lower pump housings due to them being melted, from a previous owner. But since he had no clue he had attempted this himself bfore hand, and he removed a diaphram spring plung...

I don't envy US citizens and the country's economy right now man. Won't go for the RIB either, took another peek to make sure I got everything and found some more faults the company didn't tell me about. :)

Yeah, usually I tug some wires etc. as an initial test as well but this wire didn't touch ground all the time. Different engine vibrations made it touch ground on occation only. Mostly lower rpms and high load, like when I was turning around just above planing speed there.

I had never driven that boat before so after I was done shooting, I could start experimenting with lift/trim. In the video the prop was way too low and trim was way too high, which makes light V-hulled, and tail heavy boats jump around a bit. I found the sweet spot later on though, 60+ knots.

During this economy, weve lost three dealers and shops locally that I know of.

salvage might just pay off. I enjoy boats, I wish the field payed more, around here, way too seasonal in my parts, and not enough rich dudes with large ones needing service to make a living as a tech only.

The water didn't look too rough on the video, was the trim not working as well? Is sure was porpoising. Those chafed wires, sometimes can be a bugger to find.
In my field per trouble tree, wire inspection, and ten pound pull test on all connections are the first two steps, right after downloading the fault codes, and warranty report from the ECM.
    Sounds like that insurance salva...

squat. I'm currently looking at buying a 28' RIB with 2x250 E-Tecs. It's from an insurance company which had it recovered from a theft so it's very cheap. I could make profit off that boat by just selling the motors alone. The thieves did some minor damage to it though so I have to crunch some numbers before I go for it.

    emission laws. Here's me testrunning a 21' Zyklon with a 200XS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s10RsOuPPSA
I managed to finally provoke the symptom at the end of the vid, sounds sinilar to a rpm limiter. The reason for it was a scuffed MAP-sensor lead, made the ECM a bit confused. And let me tell ya, that was NOT an easy fault to find lol. The diagnose program didn't find...
